66 NGOs call on the United Nations to investigate grave Human Rights violations en Egypt

Africa / Egypt

Tuesday 22 February 2011 by Arab Programme for Human Rights Activists -aphra-

66 Human Rights Organisations call on the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to Urgently Send a Fact-Finding Delegation to Investigate Grave Human Rights Violations in Egypt

The 66 undersigned organisations condemn the severe and continuing human rights violations in Egypt against popular demonstrations opposing the continuation of Husni Mubarak’s rule. These organisations emphasize their grave concern about these escalating abuses, particularly, extra-judicial killings, restrictions on national and foreign media, as well as the arrest of human rights activists by the military.

Therefore, the undersigned human rights organisations renew their previous call for an urgent session of the United Nations Human Rights Council to discuss the ongoing grave and systematic human rights violations in Egypt. They also call for the formation and deployment of an international fact-finding mission to investigate these systematic crimes.

Until these requests are realized, the undersigned human rights organisations call on Ms. Navi Pillay the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to send an urgent fact-finding mission to Egypt to document the serious ongoing violations.
