Colombia: Human rights defenders under threat

On October 9th, 2009, many national and international organizations have launched the National and International Campaign for the Right to Defend Human Rights (http://colombiadefenders.org). Its aim is to draw attention to the highly difficult situation of Colombian human rights defenders and to put pressure on Colombian authorities. Promoters of this campaign demand the Colombian government to take concrete measures to end impunity and arbitrary trials in order to stop once and for all the systematic stigmatisation of defenders and to implement the legislation and programmes linked to defenders’ protection.
