UDEFEGUA

In 2008, 12 human rights defenders were murdered in Guatemala, and 220 attacks were listed mainly against the trade-unionists and also among the paysants leaders.　

UDEFEGUA, the Protection Unit of Human Rights Defenders in Guatemala, counterpart of Protection International, registers, verifies, reports and denounces annually the exactions against the Guatemalan defenders. Claudia Samayoa, who coordinates UDEFEGUA, questions in particular the new economic model current in this continent on the background of despoliation and conflicts linked to the land issue.
