Jean Paul Noel Abdi, President of the Ligue Djiboutienne des Droits Humains has been arrested on February 9, 2011 and is detained at the prison of Gabode.
Jean Paul Noel Abdi is unfairly accused of “participation in an insurrectionary movement”on the basis of Articles 145 and 146.4 of the Djiboutian Penal Code for having carried out his activities as human rights defender by denouncing the repression, on February 8, 2011, of a student demonstration by the security forces [1]
The undersigned organizations are deeply concerned about the health of Mr. Jean Paul Noel Abdi, who is old and suffers from diabetes.
The undersigned organizations call on the authorities of Djibouti to proceed to the immediate and unconditional release of Mr. Jean Paul Noel Abdi, to respect the provisions of the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, and those of the African Charter on Human Rights and Peoples’ Rights and of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, both ratified by Djibouti.
