This proposition is the result of the joint work of PBI European Bureau (PBI BEO) - within its programme Protectionline and following its line of work with parliamentarians as active agents in the protection of human rights defenders- the PBI national group of the Spanish State and the Spanish section of Amnesty International. It was submitted to the Spanish State’s Plenary Sitting of the Congress of Deputies by the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) and was adopted unanimously.

This motion will lead to a resolution that will urge the government or any of its members to conduct a concrete action, to show a majority or general opinion of the Cortes about the protection of Human Rights Defenders and to lay the foundations or principles regarding any action of the public administrations. In this act we were accompanied by some defenders from Colombia and Guatemala.
