"Meet Civil Society" Fair
Brussels 6-8 October 2009
Protection International attended the “Meet Civil Society” fair on the Human Rights and Democracy Network (HRDN) stand at the European Parliament in Brussels, which was held between 6-8 October. The aim of this event was to meet Members of the new European Parliament and to raise awareness of issues handled by civil society organizations: social equity, public health, development, human rights, the environment, democracy, women’s rights, animal welfare, arts and culture, etc.
Protection International is part of the HRD Network, an umbrella organisation grouping together about forty NGOs working in the field of human rights and democracy. HRD Network has become an essential advisor to the European Commission, helping to draft human rights policy. The role of HRDN members is make sure that EU member states abide by the political commitments that they made, and to contribute to advocacy in favour of the respect for human rights, the protection of human rights defenders and to fight against impunity.
