Senior Officer at the Human Rights Defenders Desk

Reference: R-Obs-11-09

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, S(he) coordinates and implements FIDH’s activities regarding the protection of Human Rights Defenders within FIDH and OMCT joint programme: The Observatory for the protection of Human Rights Defenders.

Duties:

  • Contribute to the development strategy of the Observatory
  • Coordinate and implement the Observatory’s activities (in particular, draft urgent appeals, press releases, analytical papers and referrals, organize fact-finding, defense and judicial observation missions, lead advocacy activities with intergovernmental authorities)
  • Coordinate and participate in the drafting of the Observatory’s annual report
  • Follow-up with donors of the programme
  • S(he) shall work in close collaboration with the World Organisation Against Torture (FIDH’s partner in the programme implementation), and with other member organisations and partners of FIDH. He/She shall also work with regional teams and FIDH permanent delegations in Geneva, Brussels, The Hague, New York, Cairo, Nairobi, and with the members of the organisation’s International Board.

Required Skills and Experience: At least 7 years of relevant professional experience at the international level in the fields of Human Rights, management of programmes activities and team coordination. Perfect knowledge of French, English and Spanish is a must (both written and spoken). Excellent knowledge of international proceedings related to the protection of Human Rights.

Competencies: Multidisciplinarity, rigorous discipline and excellent writing skills. Projects coordination and team work skills as well as ability to work in emergency environment. Commitment and interest in ONG activities.
